Despite the rapid increase in electronic payroll practices and the apparent decline in check printing, many business still rely heavily on paper checks for payroll and accounts payables. However, the risk of check fraud continues to increase as criminals gain access to advanced imaging technology that can create seemingly authentic checks. Case in point: A very complex and cunning scheme near Pittsburgh, PA, in which a ring of fraudsters diverted $56,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare by printing fraudulent checks. In addition to technology used to print checks from a nonexistent bank account, investigators found fraudulent identification documents to support assumed identities so members of the ring could cash the phony checks.
As an award-winning HP business partner, TROY Group provides secure printing solutions that can help prevent occurrences of check fraud like the one described above. TROY has been an innovator in on-demand secure printing solutions since 1971. With unprecedented fraud deterrence features, TROY solutions manage, secure and simplify end-to-end enterprise printing environments. TROY offers TROY MICR Printers, TROY Security Printers , TROY MICR Toner Cartridges and application software for securely printing checks, money orders, transcripts, prescriptions and other important documents. TROY Group’s sales management team met with security printing partner Aetas Technology officials at the Aetas headquarters in China. Aetas is a leader in LED printing, (light-emitting diode), which is similar to laser printing. However, LED printers use an array of tiny LED lights to create the image. Because they operate with a direct optical path, multiple light sources and no moving parts, they are fast, cost effective and durable. Working with Aetas, TROY will continue to expand its footprint in global security printing applications. Starting off a day of planning are (l-r): TROY Asia Pacific Sales Manager Graham Galliford, Aetas CEO Bobo Wang, TROY VP and General Manager Larry Landtiser and TROY Global Sales Director Jeff Lininger.
TROY Group will present its industry-leading secure printing solutions October 16-18 at WB Mason 9th Annual Convention and Trade Show. Many human resources offices rely on ADP for processing payroll because they want their staff to be paid on time and correctly. Using the ADP onsite printing feature with TROY MICR printing solutions provides administrators firm control over their payroll processes.
Using onsite check printing gives HR professionals the ability to ensure new employees are paid on time, fix errors on the spot, and even, regrettably, print termination checks when the need arises. Other employee disbursements such as expense checks and bonus awards are printed just as quickly and easily.
Printing onsite also allows business continuity for the HR department in the event of inclement weather or emergency when remote sites that rely on contract payroll check printing can experience delays. Companies using onsite printing are able to deliver their employees’ paychecks without a hitch.
So how is onsite check printing through ADP accomplished? A TROY MICR Printer is a unit that has been modified to print the special characters found at the bottom of a check as well as all of the check information, including bank information and sequencing. MICR printers use MICR toner, a specially magnetized toner and plain laser checks, which are simply blank pieces of safety check paper. All of the vital information is printed on each check using the data users add to the ADP system
Combining the power of ADP with onsite check printing with TROY solutions is the best way to ensure the job gets done right, every time.
According to a recent survey of the tax preparation market, more than half of respondents are still using preprinted check stock to print checks; 40% report that their biggest challenge with printing checks is paper expense. Preprinted checks come with the bank routing number, account information and check sequencing printed on them. How many times have you printed a check only to realize that a different number check from the sequence was in the paper tray? Imagine how much time that cost to void that check in the system, recheck the check paper for the proper sequencing and then reprint the correct check.
Corporations with subsidiaries, accounting services that support accounts payable for multiple customers and tax preparers all can have secure storage and inventory challenges revolving around preprinted check stock for each entity they support. This often involves several staff members, locations, keys or combinations to control and audit inventory.
Plain laser checks are simply blank pieces of safety check paper. All of the vital information is printed on each check at the time the check is printed. Eliminating preprinted check stock by using an on-demand MICR check printer and plain laser stock not only saves money, it saves time and hassle, minimizing waste and the need for internal check paper inventory controls.
